There’s no real difference apart from the fact that someone with curly hair whose hair LOOKS the same length as someone with straight hair is actually slightly longer, just more compressed. There’s some superstition that witches with different hair textures are better at certain kinds of magic but there’s no real proof.

There’s some stuff I can’t talk about yet but one of the main things is hair augmentation. Using spells to make your hair appear longer is seen as shameful. There’s a pretty big market for hair-lengthening potions which are basically the Hyalin equivalent of dick-lengthening medications

hey i already partially answered this question before!

a year is definitely not a long time to grow out your hair, especially if your hair growth rate has already stabilised.  the only time a witch’s hair growth is fast enough for that to be possible is from age 1 until puberty, after that your hair pretty much starts growing at a fixed, slower rate. generally around 50 your hair growth will start to really slow down, but there are exceptions.

Oh, hair length SUPER affects how your life will turn out. It will be explored more in the comic but the witch guard doesn’t only function as the kingdom’s law enforcement. Cadets in training basically receive LIFE training as well as training in practical magic. for most it’s seen as a privilege to join the guard because how well they equip you to succeed after you leave. most people who are conscripted don’t actually have any goals to flourish in the actual army, but see it more as a stepping stone to fields they’re interested in, especially politics or magical studies (there are university places offered to those gifted in magical theory but it’s easier for those who have been in the guard to find the right connections.)

since getting into the witch guard more or less hinges on having long hair, people with short hair mostly don’t have the same advantages that long haired witches are privy to. there are always exceptions, but the system is stacked against short haired witches.

As for hair fashion, we don’t see it so much in Nyneve’s home town because it’s a small town and people opt for simpler hair do’s. We’ll be seeing some larger cities with more of a fashion scene at some point, but the fashion center is really the capital city, which WILL also feature, tho not for a while. 

There’s two main streams of hair fashion, one of which is a simple and elegant style that accentuates and compliments the length of the hair, and the other is SUPER GAUDY AND OVER THE TOP AND HOW PHYSICALLY LARGE AND ELABORATE CAN I MAKE MY HAIR LOOK, which is more a status symbol, a lot like 18th century french hair.
